Nebraska CLE Rules

The Nebraska Supreme Court has announced the adoption of minimum continuing legal education requirements for attorneys who practice law in the State of Nebraska. The mandatory 10 hours per year requirement applies to all active lawyers practicing in the State of Nebraska. Of the 10 hours, at least 2 hours must be in the area of professional responsibility or ethics. The mandatory CLE requirements become operative on January 1, 2010, but attendance at any accredited or approved CLE program as set forth in the rules in the 3 months preceding January 1, 2010 may apply toward CLE requirements for the first reporting period upon application of the attorney and approval of the Director of Judicial Branch Education.

With the passage of the new rule requiring continuing legal education for attorneys, the Supreme Court established a permanent Commission on Continuing Legal Education to regulate the implementation of the rule. Representation on the Commission will include attorneys from across the state, providing a geographical balance to the group. Ms. Carole McMahon-Boies, Director of Judicial Branch Education, will serve as staff to the Commission under the direction of the Nebraska Supreme Court.
